Hits don't matter now
Some people never change. After 13 years Akshay Kumar, Bollywood's most enduring actor studiously stays away from controversy. Especially when it has a tendency of upsetting his tailor made life. Akshay's close rapport with Priyanka Chopra might have reportedly triggered off trouble in his marriage, but she actor insists that all he shares with Priyanka is "great screen chemistry. See once two stars look together on screen, directors do tend to repeat them, there's nothing new about it. I think we are seriously undermining Priyanka's talents if someone assumes that she needs to be recommended. For the first time I have a role that's challenging for me as an actor, but look at the kind of rubbish that people like to talk about."
In town recently to wrap up the final schedule of Dharmesh Darshan's Mere Jeevan Saathi, co-starring Karisma Kapoor, Akshay says that he has always shared great vibes with Darshan brothers, Dharmesh and Suniel. "We've been working in perfect harmony for six years and we understand each other well. It's important for a director-actor combination to bond, that's what usually makes a good film possible. Mere Jeevan Saathi has been in the making for three years but it has no jaded look about it."
Another actress Akshay continues to be fond of is Kareena Kapoor: "She was a spunky girl in pigtails who'd dance around the sets as a ten year old when Karisma and I would be shooting. It's kind of weird to see that she's grown up so wonderfully." At 38, Akshay admits it's remarkably easy to enjoy life once you get your priorities right. "Once you have a nice car and a home all you want is happiness at home. For me nothing can match up to my son Araav dancing on my stomach after a long day. A hit doesn't make a whole lot of difference to my life."
