Just Juhi - Back in the limelight
The smile is still as radiant as ever. Juhi Chawla reveals that vintage bubbly streak when you ask her about her imminent comeback. "I can't cook, can't clean, can't do housework. So, I've decided to stick to acting!" she quips.
If that admission sounds honest enough, it's in sync with her own definition of Juhi Chawla in real life: "I am a very grounded person." If the limelight isn't focused on her as it used to be, she has taken it in her stride: "It's not tough. I am at a juncture in life where I have to really like what I am doing. Now there is no need for me to sign too many films anyway."
So, she has signed only "genuinely good and really interesting projects" of late. "I have Deepak Tijori's Khamosh, Gurdaas Mann's Des Hoya Pardesi and My Brother Nikhil, Sanjay Suri's home production. I'm doing these films because they offer me roles that really excite me," says Juhi, in the Capital recently to inaugurate a new hospital wing.
She is upbeat about Bollywood's future: "In the past few years the industry has become more professional, thanks to the younger lot. They are educated, and they have retained the essence of old Bollywood while infusing their own ideas. The corporatisation of production houses has made film making more systematic."
Life on the personal front? "I love spending time with my family and practising vocal music. Life is peaceful," she grins.
