Get Snappy - Karan Nath
Even with a powerful father in the industry (Rikku Rakeshnath), Karan Nath has been going through the struggle and grind in his career. But his head is firmly on his young shoulders and maybe the horizon will bring many new 'son' rises.
You've played negative character in films like 'Ssshhh....' and 'Tum'. Have you deviated towards playing anti hero instead of hero?
After 'Dil Ashiquana' worked, I wanted to experiment. I wanted to keep away from the typical hero-oriented commercial movies. 'Ssshhh...' was a commercial film. They'd given me a choice between Dino's role and my role, and I found this more interesting. 'Tum' was not a typical commercial film, but I got a thrill out of playing an obsessive character. But now I want to get back to hero kind of roles. No more experiments for me.
You've been engaged to newcomer Akanksha, daughter Of Cinevista Productions' head honcho Prem Kishan, and grandaughter of Prem Nath and Bina Rai. What is the status quo?
I wasn't engaged to her. Yes, I was seeing her for the last two years. We have broken up six months ago. She was also pursuing acting as a career and once that happened, we could not get along mentally. It was a disturbing phase in my life but you do have to move on. I am not seeing anyone else as yet.
You are currently concentrating on your home production. Is it proving obviously advantageous?
Yes. The film is directed by Anees Bazmi with a lot of song and dance. There are offers but I would like to wait. You are in charge when it comes to the home productions. Look at Hrithik; he's consistently great, but he does have an edge in home productions.
You had refused Ram Gopal Varma's 'Ab Tak Chappan'. Don't you think it would have been a better career move to get into the camp?
I was offered the supporting role in 'Ab Tak Chappan'. But I thought I didn't want to play a small role alongside Nana Patekar who is like a talent institution. I would like to do good meaty roles. Obviously I want to work with Ram Gopal Varma and I'm sure there will be opportunities in the future.
You are good looking and resourceful. What do you think has come between you and success?
Thanks for the compliment. Some people get things easily and others don't. I am okay with being in the latter category. Take the example of Saif. He had to wait for twelve years to achieve what he had set out to do in his first year.
You had several hot scenes in 'Tum'. I can't imagine a shy guy like you doing all those adult movies.
Manisha, who was my co-star in the film, really put me at ease. That made it easier. I was very nervous and hesitant, but thankfully, that did not come across on screen. And today with 'Murder' and 'Julie', it is the order of the day.
