Rituparno Ghosh has approached you for his next venture and you turned down the offer because teh film was based on homosexuality and you didn't want to play a gay character on screen?
Rituparno Ghosh has never approached me for any of his films. This is a baseless rumor that should come to an end. I am open to any kind of role and 'parallel cinema', provided I like the script. I haven't seen Ritu's work, so it won't be fair to comment on his caliber as a director.
Following your predecessors, you've also joined the small screen with your latest TV show on Martial Arts on the National Geographic Channel. Why did you opt for television?
I am not making a television debut. This is my gratitude towards Martial Arts, which is my first love. When the National Geographic approached me to do a documentary on martial arts I thought it's a great opportunity to share the knowledge of martial arts that I've everything I am to martial arts.
It is also reported by the channel authorities that you have not charged any remuneration for this mini-series?
Yes. I am not doing it for money, but for self-satisfaction. My passion for martial arts goes back to my early teens when I went to Bangkok to master them. My father insisted that I should learn martial arts when I was nine. I am also looking forward to opening my own institution in Mumbai that would popularize martial arts.
Is it true that you are Indo-Chinese film with your idol Jackie Chan on Martial Arts?
Yes. I met Jackie Chan recently, during the outdoor shooting of Sunil Darshan's 'Mere Jeevan Saatihi' at a meeting organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Department. He showed an interest in Indian films and I look forward to working with him. But it is too premature to talk about this project.
Incidentally, couple of your delayed projets are getting released this year. Post 'Khakee', for which you got much acclaim, will these films tamper with your market value as a star?
My old films 'Police Force', 'Mere Biwi Ka Jawab Nahin' an 'Lashkara' are going to release. But that shouldn't affect my career. I've always been sincere to my producers and directors. They had faced certain economical constraints so these films got delayed. At the end of the day, all these films are my films and I love them like any other films.
In Sunil Darshan's 'Mere Jeevan Saathi', you're acting with Karishma Kapoor. You've also worked with her sister Kareena in 'Ajnabee'. Do you find any differece between the Kapoor siblings?
There is a big ffsbetween Karisma and Kareena. But both are good and sweet in their own way. My first film with Lolo was 'Deedar'. Bebo was a kid then who sometimes came with Lolo on the sets. I remember playing with her. She has grown into a beautiful woman now. I worked with her in Abbas-Mustan's 'Ajnabee' and am now working with her in 'Aeitraaz'. Post marriage, Lolo has matured and she looks better. I'm very comfortable with both the Kapoor sisters.
